Active Travel Challenge – June 2022

Three of our staff members have shared their inspiring stories on how they have become more active in their journeys.  They wouldn’t change what they are now doing and the benefits are beyond physical!

Take the Active Travel Challenge

Belfast Trust staff are being urged to leave the car at home this June and take part in the Active Travel Challenge. The joint initiative encourages the staff and the public to try walking, cycling and taking public transport as an alternative to the car for an entire month.

Participants will not only be in with the chance to win prizes, but to create new habits for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable lifestyle.

With the rising cost of living there is an appetite to make greener choices that benefit the environment. A return to the office, even in a hybrid model, is a unique opportunity to try out new ways to not only get to work, but to take a break from working at home and get moving outdoors.

This collaborative drive aims to inspire people to adopt greener travel options that will prioritise their health and wellbeing and support Northern Ireland’s ‘green’ economic recovery and progress towards a low-carbon future.

Prizes up for grabs

It’s free to register and staff can log their ‘active travel’ journeys online throughout June. There is a different theme each week of the month and a range of prizes up for grabs, including vouchers, travel tickets and rewards with national and regional retailers.

New for 2022 – Borrow a Bike scheme.

As part of the Leading the Way Belfast programme, Sustrans will be launching a new Borrow a Bike scheme in June that will allow Belfast Trust staff to test a bike for up to 2 weeks for the commute to work.

Staff can choose from a range of Sustrans bikes including city, electric and folding commuter bikes.  Each bike comes complete with helmet, panier, lights, bell, basic tool kit, lock etc.

This scheme allows staff to try their commute by bike before investing in purchasing one themselves.

Terms and conditions apply. Users must attend an induction session prior to bike issue.

Watch out for more details on how to book your bike loan.
