This workshop will give you information about the range of options available to you such as direct payments, a managed budget, the Trust choosing and arranging a service on your behalf or a mixture of all three. Embedding Recovery in day to day lives | Recovery is something worked towards and experienced by the person with mental illness. It is not something services can do to the person. The contribution of staff is to support the person in their journey towards recovery. This journey towards recovery is individual and the best way of supporting an individual’s recovery varies from person to person. This course looks at how day-to-day decisions can impact on recovery and what each person can do for their own recovery and how to support others to do the same. | 27th April 2023

Compassion Fatigue | Compassion fatigue is an emotional and physical burden created by the trauma of helping others in distress, which leads to a reduced capacity for empathy towards suffering in the future. This is especially common in front line workers, however, we are all vulnerable. This webinar looks at the symptoms and stages in Compassion Fatigue, and highlights self-management strategies that can be employed to maintain wellness.

Living with Depression | Depression is increasingly common in todays society yet it is still greatly misunderstood and there remains a significant lack of awareness around it. Through this course we will discuss the definition, signs and symptoms of depression and the negative views that can sometimes be held against those living with the condition. We aim to dispel some of the myths around depression and provide information on where help and support can be found. We hope to provide a better understanding of the treatments on offer and how to maintain our wellbeing. This course is open to all students, whether they are people with depression, families, carers or mental health practitioners. Living with Bi Polar Disorder | Bipolar Affective Disorder is not just about experiencing the ups and downs of everyday life. There have been many changes to benefits in recent years. Creative Writing | This course focuses primarily on fiction-writing, and is suitable for people who are keen readers. We explore ways to develop dialogue, pace, plot, characterisation and other techniques involved in developing stories. This course is facilitated by a published author.
This is a 3 week course where you will learn how to write the basics of creative writing with prompts, ideas, and discussions along the way. Everyone will learn something new along the way. This course looks at the fundamentals of writing and how to use them in everyday tasks and can help you grow confidence in writing. . Top Tips For Looking After Yourself | The Top Tips for Looking After Yourself programme is co-delivered in partnership with the Belfast Trust Health Improvement Team. It is an interactive workshop to enable and empower students to understand their mental health, manage stress and build resilience. This course helps you develop the confidence and knowledge of how & where to start. You will learn all about the different types of volunteering there are, explore the benefits of volunteering for you personally, and for the wider world around you. You will see how volunteering can boost and support your overall wellbeing and provide you with the chance to give back and connect more to your local community. You’ll be amazed to discover the huge variety of roles that there are available, and you’ll discover how to find roles that suit your abilities & interests, and roles that can help you learn new skills too! This practical, fun, and interactive course has been designed with input from Belfast Recovery College, Volunteer Now, and the Volunteering Department in the Belfast HSC Trust, and it will guide you through the process of finding & securing rewarding volunteering opportunities for yourself.
