
Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Training Guide
The Health Improvement Team are pleased to announce the launch of our 2025/26 Training Guide for Mental Health Improvement and Suicide Prevention. Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 12 to 18 May 2025 and it’s the perfect time to consider brushing up your skills and knowledge.
This guide provides information on the wide range of training programmes available on the topics of mental health, emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention. The programmes detailed in the guide are relevant to Belfast Trust staff as well as the wider community.

Towards Zero Suicide- Level 1 Awareness
This eLearning module has been developed by Mersey Care NHS Trust, who are part of the Zero Suicide Alliance. It provides some fundamental information and tips that will help you to have a helping conversation with someone who may be thinking about ending their life. It takes just 20 minutes and could save a life. Suitable for All BHSCT staff and accessible LearnHSCNI | Towards Zero Suicide – Level 1 Awareness.
SHARE NI
This programme is for all staff working in mental health, to guide and assist in the area of information sharing. The aim of this training is to educate and provide guidance to support practitioners to work through the legal and clinical issues surrounding the sharing of information, to produce better outcomes and protect service users’ best interests. Safety Planning- Collaborative & Stanley Brown
The National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Harm has identified a decreased risk of suicide if a personalised risk management plan is in place. Help those in crisis create better prepared plans and safer environments that will help with their needs. Suicide Prevention Formulation Training (CASE/PISANI)
For Band 5+ BHSCT Adult Mental Health Practitioners only. 2 part course that aims to educate staff in implementing best practice to support safer services and move away from risk prediction to risk prevention mentality. Staff gain understanding of: Chronological Assessment of Suicide Events (CASE) approach and Pisani Risk Formulation Tool as part of the You in Mind assessment.
