Take 5 for Your Mental Health

There are lots of ways you can get together with friends and family this Mental Health Awareness Week to improve your mental health and emotional wellbeing.  Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing is an easy guide to 5 types of activities that we can all do to improve our mental health:

If you’re looking for inspiration there are lots of opportunities to Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing by participating in the Belfast 2024 programme of events taking place throughout the year.  All are free and can be found on the website www.belfast2024.co.uk

Here are some of the events taking place during Mental Health Week in May:

Water Works – Community Boatbuilding Workshops

  • Location: Drawing Offices, Titanic Hotel, Queens Road, BT3 9DT

A series of drop-in events open to all at the spectacular Drawing Office, Titanic Hotel, where the world’s most famous ocean liners were designed.   Have a go at constructing your own boat using recycled and biodegradable materials, boatbuilding tools and pop-up pools – all provided.  Add your own messages in bottles, try our temporary sailor-style tattoos, and enter your boat design in our drawing competitions, where there are some exciting prizes to be won!

Belfast’s has an array of astounding wildlife, we’re all familiar with colourful butterflies, but what if we told you that our moths are bigger and bolder than you’ve ever imagined! We’ll be installing moth traps through the Lagan Towpath and taking you on a journey of what we have found.  Find more information on the Wild Belfast website.

Little Amal May Queen Parade

  • Location: Procession leaves Writers Square to City Hall at 12.30pm

Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child, will take a journey across our city to see the place we call home and make it her home for four days (16 – 19 May) as she explores our places and enjoys experiences with our people. Saturday’s procession will leave at 12.30pm moving along Donegal Street, Bridge Street, High Street and onto Donegal Place and then ending at City Hall. The best viewing points for the parade are on High Street/Donegal Place.  Rolling road closures will be in place between 11.40am and 1pm facilitated by the PSNI which will affect traffic flow in the city centre and bus routes.
