Isolation and Loneliness Training
We want to raise awareness of how loneliness and isolation can affect our health, particularly when experienced by older people.
The World Health Organisation has found that a large body of research shows that social isolation and loneliness have a serious impact on older people’s physical and mental health, quality of life, and their longevity. The effect of social isolation and loneliness on mortality is comparable to that of other well-established risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.

Therefore, we have launched a training programme: An Introduction to Loneliness and Isolation Experienced by Older People.
These training courses are available in three levels (half-day, full day and 2.5-day length) and are aimed at staff and volunteers, in healthcare and non-healthcare roles, who are directly engaging with older people in the Belfast Trust area.

Positive Ageing Month is a month-long festival of events and activities for older people, which celebrates the contribution that older people make to their communities and the city of Belfast.
