World Oral Health Day aims to achieve optimal oral health for everyone by empowering people with the knowledge, tools and confidence to secure good oral health
Why is World Oral Health Day important?
Oral diseases are a major health concern for many countries and negatively impact people throughout their lives.
Oral diseases lead to:
- Pain and discomfort,
- Social isolation
- Loss of self-confidence,
- Often linked to other serious health issues.
And yet, there is no reason to suffer: most oral health conditions are largely preventable and can be treated in their early stages.
Tips to maintain optimal Oral Health
- Brush last thing at night, and one other time throughout the day with a fluoride toothpaste
- Brush your teeth for 2 minutes
- Use the right amount of toothpaste – you only need the size of a green pea/ smear for Children under 3 years of age
- Brush front and back teeth in circles – draw a circle on every tooth with your toothbrush.
- When brushing, spit out the excess toothpaste and do NOT rinse with water.
- Have sugary foods and drinks less often.
- Replace your toothbrush every 3 months
- Visit the dentist every 6 months
