ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

21st December 2023

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

ASIST is a two day interactive workshop that prepares caregivers to provide life-assisting suicide first aid interventions using the Pathway for Assisting Life model.

Learning outcomes

Following the training you will be better able to: –

  • Identify people who have thoughts of suicide
  • Understand how beliefs and attitudes can affect suicide interventions
  • Help the person with thoughts of suicide to recognise turning points which connect them to life
  • Complete a safety assessment and help the person to develop a safe plan
  • Please note that taking part in suicide prevention training can be challenging, especially if you have been personally affected by suicide.

If you have recently been bereaved by suicide, or experienced a recent suicidal crisis yourself, this may not be the right time for you to take part in the ASIST programme. If you have queries regarding this please contact Clare.Flynn@belfasttrust.hscni.net
